APA History

The Association of Pakistani Americans of Bolingbrook has been hosting Pakistan Independence day programs in Bolingbrook for 27 years.  Previously held in the Village hall and the DuPage Township Levy Center.  After a few years of arranging the successful programs and to adhere to the request of the Pakistani American community we requested Mayor Roger Claar to see if we could hold a flag hoisting ceremony.  We were very fortunate that Mayor Claar accepted our request and from there on we started this historic flag hoisting ceremony at the Village hall in the presence of Village officials, Consul General of Pakistan and various politicians who graciously honored us.  This year marks the 27th  year of our flag hoisting ceremony.

We are very proud to say that Bolingbrook is the only community in the USA that holds such a historic ceremony where the Pakistani flag has been hoisted for so many years and the Consulate General of Pakistan has always attended.

The accomplishments of the Association of Pakistani Americans of Bolingbrook are driven by a strong community.  We are an intimate group who put our community before anything else.   Last year we inaugurated an all youth cricket league starting a new era in youth cricket right here in Bolingbrook.  Along with the “Taste of Pakistan” our notorious and well organized Pakistan Day event. The Association is involved in strengthening the community through outreach and being involved in local politics.

In 2010 Money Magazine included Bolingbrook in its “100 best places to live in the USA” for the second year in a row.  Bolingbrook ranked #43 this year and was #1 in the State of Illinois passing up Arlington Heights #59, Mount Prospect #56 and Naperville #54.  This was not an overnight accomplishment but took much hard work and the leadership and vision of Bolingbrook Mayor, Roger C. Claar who brought us this prestigious honor.  Bolingbrook has a vibrant and diverse community, which is keeping its traditional values and at the same time plays a significant role in the progress of the Village.
